The US Department of Transportation (DOT) requires all employees in safety-sensitive positions to be drug and alcohol tested after being involved in an accident, so long as the nature of the accident meets certain criteria outlined in the Code of Federal Regulations (http://www.dot.gov/ost/dapc/).
Under 49 CFR part 382.303, an accident is defined as follows:

DOT requires the drug test be performed within 32 hours of the accident and the alcohol test be performed within 8 hours.
