Drugs Don't Work Here Campaign
Businesses with an active Drug Free Workplace program save lives & money. We believe that drug testing also helps protect businesses
from the cancer of drug abuse. Our goal is to help you achieve and maintain a safe and drug free workplace. To that end, DATCS is sponsoring
the “Drugs Don’t Work Here” Drug Free Workplace Campaign with businesses and organizations displaying
a “Drugs Don’t Work Here” sign. The signs provide a statement of commitment and also `send the message to discourage
drug abusers from trying to do drugs at your business. The best drug test you can give is the one you don’t have to give. One
of the signs is attached if you would like to print it out for display. You can also add your logo to the sign.
DATCS congratulates businesses and organizations with active drug free workplaces and encourages them to assist others in creating
their own and to spread the message. Companies are urged to show their support by displaying a Drug Free Workplace ‘Drugs
Don’t Work Here’ sign.” Download one today!
As a part of National Drug Free Work Week, DATCS sponsors a year round community service and education initiative, “Drugs Don’t
Work Here” – Drug Free Workplace Campaign. National Drug Free Work Week is promoted by the U.S. Department of Labor (US DOL)
and businesses nationwide. The US DOL’s website states the week’s purpose, “to educate employers, employees and the general
public about the importance of being drug-free as a component of improving workplace safety and health and to encourage workers with alcohol
and drug problems to seek help”. The U.S. DOL has determined that “Three quarters of adult drug abusers are in the workplace…businesses
and workers pay for this abuse in terms of accidents, errors and illness” (USDOL website).
There are 5 key steps to making a business or organization an Active Drug Free Workplace:
- a sound, up-to-date comprehensive drug policy;
|
- pre-employment, random, reasonable suspicion, post accident, return to duty & follow-up drug testing;
- in-house employee assistance program or an up-to-date resource referral list;
- supervisor training on indicators of drug & alcohol abuse;
- ongoing employee education.
Several cities, counties and state legislatures have passed resolutions in support of Drug Free Work Week and the Drugs
Don’t Work Here Campaign.
